Former Baker McKenzie partner Jan-Willem Gerritsen is your trusted tax counsel with over 30 years of experience in tax and legal issues

With my 30+ years of experience as attorney and tax advisor in one of the largest global law firms I gained the skills, experience and perspectives to assist you moving your organization forward while being in control of your main tax affairs.
Small or medium-sized companies with cross-border activities, assets and revenues usually have a capable finance manager or team, but often lack an in-house tax person or a dedicated, specialized and affordable tax advisor.
For such companies, GerritsenTaxLegal offers high-quality international tax services with a personal touch. Both in everyday tax matters and in matters that are crucial to the existence and growth of the company: investments, financing, joint ventures and partnerships, expansion and acquisitions.
National and international tax rules are constantly changing, due to new case law and changes in legislation. GerritsenTaxLegal proactively monitors tax changes that are relevant for you, anticipates on potential tax risks and ensures that your company complies with its tax obligations.
GerritsenTaxLegal advises and assists clients to better understand, manage and resolve Dutch corporate tax and transfer pricing (TP) issues, and related (withholding) tax questions in a broader (international) perspective.
GerritsenTaxLegal provides strategic advice and second opinions in the following areas:
Corporate income tax including transfer pricing and preparation of documentation – including intercompany contracts – to support and defend positions taken with the Dutch tax and customs administration (Belastingdienst).
Withholding taxes (on dividends and conditional withholding taxes on interest and royalties).
International tax law, tax treaty application (tax credits) and interpretation.
European tax law, interpretation of EU Directive and implementation into local laws, specialized in EU Mandatory Disclosure Rules (DAC6).
Income tax, Payroll tax, Social security, avoidance of double taxation in these areas.
Guarantees and indemnities in acquisition contracts, tax aspects of specific (international) contracts.
Through our network we can also easily and seamlessly coordinate advice in any other tax area, including corporate income tax compliance, Transfer Tax/VAT/Customs Duties, Inheritance and gift tax. GerritsenTaxLegal is a member of the Clever community (https://letsbeclever.com/) a platform of highly experienced tax specialists, adding flexibility and transparency for both clients and members, providing traditional quality in a non-traditional way but at a fraction of the costs of major law firms or Big 4.
Personal, high-quality and accurate
My working method is personal, high-quality and accurate. You will always work with me, although depending on the issue I can rely on a number of experienced (now) independent tax lawyers or tax advisors with whom I worked extensively in my prior law firm.
This also makes that I am assured of knowledge sharing, professional meetings and collegial consultation, of which in the end you as a client benefits. I always try to come up with solutions – clear, workable and directional – that take you further.
GerritsenTaxLegal (GTL) values speed and transparency, without compromising on reliability and care. You can reach me at any time by e-mail or telephone. GTL can assist you in Dutch and English.
Financial
After a free intake that does not oblige you to anything, GTL can accept you as a client in consultation.
Identification is required for this, and I may need certain data in the field of ‘know your client’. The general terms and conditions of GTL apply (see bottom of page). In principle, GTLworks at an hourly rate. The basic rate varies from € 275 to € 325. If the case lends itself to it, a (pre-paid) fixed fee or a lower hourly rate in combination with a success fee can be agreed.
Monthly invoice
GTL invoices monthly with a payment term of two weeks. You will receive a specified invoice. GTL may request a deposit or advance payment that will be settled with the last invoice in a case.
WWFT and Confidentiality
In most cases, GTL’s tax advisory services will fall under the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act (the WWFT). In such a situation, GTL is legally obliged to report an unusual transaction to the Financial Intelligence Unit, without informing you.
As a tax advisor and member of the Dutch Assocation of Tax Advisors (NOB), I am bound to strict confidentiality in everything that comes to my knowledge when practising my profession. This does not apply if you (as my client) relieved or partially relieved me of this obligation or if I have a legal or legally based obligation to disclose information. You can therefore consult with us in discretion and confidentiality.

I really enjoy getting to know other companies, meeting new people and seeing where I can add value as a highly experienced tax advisor.
The concept of “Tax Specialist for a Day” is simple: I come along with my computer and my Tax Code, and am at your disposal for a day, for example as a sparring partner in solving a complex tax issue, strategic advice in a dispute with the tax administration, a targeted advisory assignment or for a second opinion (on your tax structure or compliance documentation?), you name it. The costs are EUR 1,000 excluding VAT.
If I don’t have the expertise and can’t help you further, too bad, but this is for my risk.
